The Sony TV red light blinking 2 times error is frequently triggered by a component failure leading to an Overload Protection (OLP) condition, which prevents the TV from turning on to protect the main circuits.

SMPS Voltage Check: Use a voltmeter to measure whether the required voltage is properly output from the TV's AC adapter or SMPS circuit. Hold the red probe of the meter to the main positive supply output terminal; then switch on the TV, keep an eye on the meter screen, and see if the voltage drops during the TV starting time. If the voltage drops one or more volts, check the filter capacitors and AC rectifier diodes in the SMPS circuit.

Protection Mode Triage: If there is a short circuit, overcurrent, overload, or low voltage input/output detected anywhere on the circuit board, the entire circuit goes into protection mode to prevent component damage. When in protection mode, the red light blinks two times as an error signal.

• If no hardware problem is found, the fault may lie in the TV's protection system control circuit. Most of that protection circuit's components are inside the processor, and outside the processor is a resistive voltage divider circuit with two resistors connected in series.

A reference voltage (19.5V) is applied to one side of the series resistor, ground to the other, and a divider voltage is output from the middle; this divided voltage acts as a protection sense for the processor.

Repairing the Sony Bravia 2-Times Blinking Error via the Protection Pin

To check if the two resistors in the voltage divider circuit are damaged, find out where those two resistors are located on the board. The two series resistors located near the protection terminal of the MT5566GQVT measure 19.5 volts on one side, which is the voltage divider circuit.

The figure shows a test point near R1, where I measured 19.5 volts with the meter. So, R1 and R2 are both voltage divider circuits. However, the values R1 and R2 are not written in it.

When the MT5566GQVT processor receives 2.31 volts and draws a current of 0.209 milliamps at its protection terminal, we can calculate the required resistance using Ohm’s Law, which states: Resistance = Voltage ÷ Current.

$$R_{Total} = 19.5 V \div 0.209 mA$$ $$R_{Total} = 93.30 K\Omega$$

To deliver 2.31 volts to the protection pin from a 19.5-volt power source, the appropriate resistor values are R1 = 82 kilo-ohms and R2 = 11 kilo-ohms.
